Yes, you can install steel wheel hubs on a wire wheel rear in place of
the wire wheel splined hubs & wind up with a rear approx. 1-1/2"
narrower that will accept Datsun 240/260/280 sized rims. I ran a set of
Shelby 14 x 7 rims made for a 280Z for years with 205/60/14 tires. No
fit problems front or rear, except that the passenger side needed a
3/16" spacer. This setup will also allow the use of non-turbo 300Z 15"
rims, which have the 4 x 4-1/2" bolt pattern
While this is too much tire for most, it worked fine with a V8
conversion.
