MGBs *should be* cheaper to repair than modern cars, but you have to find
someone who knows what they are doing, and it's still cheaper to do it
yourself. I had someone break into my V8 and break the 1/4-light hinge. On
any other car that would probably have meant a new 1/4-light assembly. I
bought *one half* of the hinge from my locals parts chappie for 50 pence. I
also had a Scimitar and it was the most unreliable car I have ever had - for
the first 12 months of my ownership, it took me that long to get it
reliable. I don't think I ever got stranded anywhere, but it was a pretty
close call a couple of times. I had just started a new job and was driving
my boss back through the wilds of Norfolk when a heater hose went and I lost
all my water. As I stopped I happened to notice a water bowser in a field,
and found an empty fertiliser bag under a hedge, and used the latter to
carry some water from the former to refill the system, after I had blanked
off the heater. I was concerned my new boss would take a dim view,
particularly as he had to help me carry a plastic sack full of water across
a field, but he said he was impressed with my resourcefulness! It's an
ill-wind, as they say.
