Indeed.  Without that cut-off the hazard flasher can feed back through the
turn-switch, if it were left operated after an accident, so powering the
fuel pump and ignition.  As well as pumping fuel through any damaged pipe it
could cause arcing from damaged wiring and HT sparks.
