I'm a dyed-in-the-wool B-GT fan, albeit only with overdrive. I've bored
people on this list with the story of how I got a new '68 GT "back in the day"
immediately upon my return from 'Nam. Instant love. Put well over 130K
miles--speedo quit several times so the exact amount is unclear--and would
still
have it were it not for a Pontiac pulling out suddenly 10 years later.
Six years ago I decided to dive back in a got a very nice '72 roadster, no
OD. Liked it a lot with the top down, but felt claustrophobic with the top
up, even with a lightly colored top liner.
Then a chance at a rust-free '72 GT with OD popped up, and I grabbed it.
This car had a lot of faults, but it had a new engine w/alloy head and the OD
worked. I love it again, just like before, now 5 years into this car. With
the OD and a good engine it pulls happily at modern highway speeds--i.e. 75-80
mph--it is quiet, largely rain-proof, better security, and the cornering is
actually better than the roadster due to less body flexing, although at the
expense of a little weight. Great shape, too. Did I say I love it?
