Hey gang,
I could use some input on suspension mods for my old bus. I know it is a
little old for the list, but I am sure some of you will be willing to add
your 2 cents worth.

Subject: 1940 Chev 1-1/2 ton 16 passenger school bus with 133" wheelbase.

It currently has the original drive train. I am looking to do some serious
traveling with this thing and am looking for a smooth and dependable ride.

Option 1: Subframe or switch frames with a one ton step van. This would
give me the modern ride, but I am concerned with the width of the front
suspension. I could widen the fenders to make a better fit.

Option 2: Retain the original drop axle. Change the springs. Convert the
stock hubs to 1 ton disc setup. Narrow a 1 ton rear end and use a 4 link
with airbags.

Option 3: ???

I personally like option two, but have no idea if it is even possible.
Where would I begin to look for a way to convert the front hubs over to the
1 ton disc? Is this something that could be fabricated at a reasonable
cost? I know kits are availible for the half ton trucks so I would assume
technologically it is possible. Also, where would I go to have springs
built?

OK, lets see what you guys can come up with!

Thanks in advance,
Steve
