Jay,
I have a 59 GMC and my spare tire is mounted under the bed just infront
of the rear bumper. My truck is a stepside too. You should have a
hanging bracket that holds the spare up. It goes right between the
crossmembers of the frame at the very rear of the bed. Hope this helps.
