I looked at using the IFS off of a 74 Chevy pickup and came to the
same conclusion, its to wide, and it will raise the front end quite a bit.
I can't see a way to narrow it, the A frames are just to long.
As for other options, I've seen several camaro/nova front clip
replacements lately, done by body shops, that looked bad. In one case
the radiator mount was cut at the lower left corner to clear the steering
gear box, no radiator was installed because the radiator would now
occupy the same space as the steering box.
Besides, I just can't bring myself to torch off the front
of the frame. After much thought I intend to use the stock front
axil, and graft in the disk brakes, the power steering from the 74 PU.
I have yet to finalize the details, (wheel bearings to use, adapter plate
design to mount the brakes, etc) but I work in the machine shop so
the fabrication will not be a problem. There are kits and several
examples on the web of the power steering upgrade, so that should
not present a problem. I may later go to a Mustang II style IFS but
$$ prevent that at this time.
