I put hypereutectic pistons in a 454 I built for my 66 Suburban, and I
found that they were noisy when cold. Chevy had this problem with their
first ZZZ 350 crate engine about 10 years ago. I guess you can get them
to be quiet if you get a well made piston, and get the clearance just
right...but I'd be inclined to go with forged pistons for any
turbo/supercharged engine. I would be scared of custom hypereutectic
pistons...I think it takes quite a bit of development to get them to
work right for any given application. I know that the guys who run
nitrous have had trouble with hyper. pistons disintegrating under
conditions that would not hurt a forged piston.
I have TRW forged pistons in the supercharged 454 in my 55 Belair.
