Welcome, Scott!

Manuals on cd-rom? what a concept! I have the GM service info for my
wife's new 99 Silverado on CD rom, it was free from Helm...what a pain
to use. I have good reprints of the factory shop and assembly manuals
for my old trucks, and I much prefer the printed word.

The engine casting date and number should be on the side of the block,
near the starter, which means you may have to remove the starter to
clean the block enough to see the numbers.
