In our local mechanics world we called that stuff "Yellow Death".

For some reason it was popular among our shade tree and discount
mechanics as a gasket sealer. I wasn't too bad if they put it on only
ONE side of the gasket, that was just a lot of scraping and cursing.

The real problem is that some used "little good- more better" philosophy
and put it on both sides of the gasket. I can't recall how many fuel and
water pumps that I actually broke while trying to get them off.

The worst case was the time that some yahoo glued a head gasket with it.
We ended up driving a couple wood chisels into the gasket. It only came
off when the gasket separated half on the head and half on the block!

I grew to hate that stuff so much I can barely bring myself to use it on
weather strips where it belongs :-)
