I had a similar problem last year in my 1970 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Pick up when
I converted it over from a 3 spd to automatic.  Turned out the flywheel was
warped just enough to scrape at higher RPM'S.  Replaced the flywheels and my
problems went away.
