Subject: [oletrucks] AD birthday card

Well it was one day to SHIMBOs birthday and I decided that the prudent thing
to do was to get her a birthday card. I whipped into the nearest Target
store and soon I was in business. I got her one about cats puking on the
rug and peeing on the bed etc. cuz she has a herd of those critters in the
house. Real romantic eh? (BTW she really liked the card.)

Anyhow as I was perusing the racks I spotted a card that seemed to have an
AD front end with a chrome grill. Sure enough that's what it was! The AD
was kinda distressed being light blue and red and purple and a dent in the
fender and a rusty scraped bumper sans splash apron. The grill was dented
and beat up. The verbiage was 'classic, stylish, experienced, timeless,
spunky ...' and the inside said 'OLD happy birthday. SHIMBO is old but not
quite as old as the AD but awfully damn close for sure. The card was made
by 'RECYCLED Paper Greetings' with a bar code of 42823-46195 8 01296. If
the AD was white I would have thought that they took a picture of my truck.
I'm here to tell you that that card will get you misty eyed if you look at
it for very long. I was really misty and bought the card. I was gonna give
it to her for her birthday but decided to go with the cat thing cuz she
isn't really that thrilled with my Pcup. Really deep down I know that she
actually loves it but knows that if she lets any of those feelings out then
I would have the green light to do a total restoration and never be around
the house and will not have any money for sushi and flowers (they only die
anyway). Oh Well!!

I should have told this story when it happened but I didn't so I will tell
it now. A few weeks before Christmas SHIMBO decreed that I was to accompany
her to town to procure a dead evergreen so that the kids could put lights
and stuff on it and the cats could do their damndest to knock it down. To
that I decreed that ifin I was abuyin, Weuns was agoin' in the Pcup. SHIMBO
protested mumbling something about 'The White Elephant' but relented cuz I
was abuyin. HEHE. Off we went and I could tell that she wasn't really
impressed with the road view through the almost nonexistent cab floor. We
arrived at the tree place and found the 'perfect tree'. Yeah right, perfect
to the tune of 50 bucks (grrrrr). SHIMBO dispatched the tree boy to place
the tree in the back of 'That White Elephant'. He lingered until I got in
the truck and asked if I knew where he could get a truck like mine. Then
the Kicker was, "yours is SOO COOOL!" I was smiling from ear to ear and
SHIMBO was frowning. She was depressed and decreed that I was to take her
to the local bagel place and buy her a bagel sandwich. I obeyed and
wouldn't you know it the only place open to park was right in front of the
bagel store. We entered and were soon enjoying the trendy bagel sandwiches
at the bar by the front window which happened to be right in front of the
Pcup. The waitress came by and asked if we knew who owned 'that truck'. I
fessed up and she then stated, "It's totally awesome". SHIMBO was in a
flaming downward spiral but I was on top of the world. She decreed that we
should head for the barn via the local King Soopers. After mass quantities
of nourishing material were purchased, I was placing the purchase in the bed
of the Pcup when a car stopped in the parking lot. One of the occupants
therein pointed and stated in a loud voice, "THAT'S what you can get me for
Christmas! I wonder how many of those Santa has at the North Pole?" SHIMBO
was down for the count. I saw that she needed to be cheered up and I did my
part by not complaining about the felines for almost one whole day. Hey,
that's the least that I could do, Right? Time marches on.

The struggle continues,
