Johnny,
    although, I have not used a 8 volt battery, I have been told that you 
need to set up the regulator to charge at 8 volts. You're lights should work 
better because the 6 volt light are rated up to 8 volts. So all you need to 
do is raise the voltage output in you're regulator. This should charge you're 
battery.
