A while ago, there was a lot of talk about this.  It's called bump-steer.
The most common cause is a worn drag link (between the steering box arm and
the driver's side wheel.  Also could be slop in the steering gearbox that
can be adjusted out, tie rod ends, or loose kingpins.  Put the truck up on
ramps, get under it, and have someone rock the steering wheel back and
forth through the slack area.  Listen for the klunk and figure it out from
there.

On mine, it is the drag link.  I plan on replacing it when it comes out of
storage in the spring.
