Leah, I don't know what truck you have, so I'll assume you have an AD. Each
of the 2 gauges have 4 small (3/8's, I think) nuts attached at about 11 and
2 o'clock and 8 and 4 o'clock. Drain the coolant down some and remove the
sending unit thing from the head. Remove a battery cable then label if you
need to and remove all the wires. remove the oil pressure line from the
gauge. They come out from the front. Once you have it all apart, gently pull
the speedo needle straight up. Straight up is VERY important to prevent
tweaking the speedo shaft. It probably needs rebuilding anyhow. Sand the
metal fascia plates with some 240 grit wet or dry paper with water if the
surface is rusty at all, if not use a green Scotch bright pad the scuff the
surface. Clean very well and leave it wet a little. Peel off the decals and
wet the back to remove all the sticky stuff. Wet the decal and slide it on
in the correct orientation and let set overnight before reassembling. Use a
wet finger to squeegee the excess water from the back of the decal. Removing
the adhesive will allow you to center the decals perfectly. The decals
stretch very easily, so use the wet method. Some slightly soapy water will
make it easier since this is your first time. I used one of the decals that
wasn't needed and stuck it to my bathroom mirror. Its still attached very
well even after 8 months or so.. To remove it, I will need a knife. It
sticks that well. Have fun doing it, I did. Oh yeah, get new beauty rings
for the guages, too. Mine look like new. I made my own gaskets from the
cover of an old phone book.
