Every time lately when I stop at the grocery store on my way to work,
someone will corner me for 20 minutes to talk about my old truck.

I call it the Old Truck Delay Factor (OTDF) <grin>

It's made me late several times to work!

I love this old truck and look forward to getting the suspension tightened
up and the doors fixed (new weatherstrip).

I'm a new Dad (March 30th) and we bought a small house this year (our
first) so it's a slow process....

Enjoying the list and regret some folks have to stir up trouble (flexing
their egos) everywhere they go. Sort of wrecks it for those of us just
trying to relax and read about our truck projects.

While politics and religion and current events may be interesting to some,
it leads to alot of trouble. So can blanket statements about people. Hey if
you are a member of the group getting slammed, then what does anyone
expect. Of course tempers will flare.

I have seen other lists (VW, Corvairs, motorcycles, Land Rovers, Porsche)
struggle through meltdowns that leave some with a sour taste - enough that
it takes months for discussion to resume to normal levels. Unfortunately
some leave (usually folks who hate the fights and seem to know about what
they are writing) leaving the rest of us with a higher concentration of
dip***ts. <grin>

I don't mind posts on anything if the subject line is very clear (topic and
model of truck) and on other lists we get warned in the subject if it's off
topic or (NO OLD TRUCK) or (NO CORVAIR) or whatever.

This helps me (a subscriber to 6 or 7 lists) to delete thing that doesn't
interest me and move on. Also if the format is consistent I can teach my
Eudora mail program to filter the mail into categories (based on sender or
topic or whatever) to help prioritize it.

Needless to say with several hundred messages a day, I delete much of them
without opening them. I hadn't read this list's mail since late last week
so I didn't know what the tension was all about. I had about 350 messages
from a couple of old truck lists to read. 45 minutes tops.

Enjoying the reading and the chatting folks

Lurk mode back on. Flame suit also on... <grin>
