  Kind of depends on how you drive it...I broke the ring and pinion on a '58 
or '59 GMC 10 bolt with my BBC ('70 LS5 block, TH400 combo) and upgrade to a 
8.5 inch 10 bolt, and sheared the spider gears.  I then went to a 12 bolt and 
never destroyed it...all ratios were 3.08 and in the days of bias ply 
tires...I'd expect that radials would grab better and put a little more 
strain on the rear.

  I'd suggest the 12 bolt, or have a 9inch with axles drilled/made to match 
your front's....the initial cost may be a bit higher, the work involved in 
installing either is the same as a 10bolt, and the longevtity may payoff.

  Oh, I did all my "breaking" of the rears when I was 16-19 years 
old....funny though, haven't broke much since ;)
