Just clamp one end in the vise.
Lean against the shock.
It should move in slowly.
When it bottoms out, reverse the process.
It should pull out slowly.
If either direction moves quick the shock is junk.
Be aware the shocks are designed to work up and down not side to side,
So after three or four times some older shocks may quit working
horizontally.
Fluid leaking out of a shock is never a good sign.
Hope this helps.

I have a question about shocks. I took the shocks our of my '53 truck,
other than just being dirty, how do I know (once they are out) that need
replacement?
These are Monroe Magnun 34824, I tried to buy these type but the guy at
the counter said that they don't make Magnuns anymore, they only have
sensa-trac, which according to the guy at the FLAPS are similar.
Are theses the same?

Thanks,

Antonio
