DON'T DO IT! The line to temp sender can't be cut. You have to remove the
sensor from engine and pass thru the firewall in one pc if you remove. It is a
sealed line and once cut is damaged and will not work. When you buy
replacement gauge it comes with the line coiled up and sensor on it. Hole in
firewall is big enough to pass but has rubber grommet in it which may break
getting it out. I wouldn't mess with it if it works. If it doesn't work, total
replacement is needed.

Gary, I'm going to try that. I bought a kit at Carquest to repair the
aftermarket gage. The plastic line had gotten crimped right at the fitting
and was leaking. The original may take the same fitting and ferrule which is
brass and I still have one left over from this kit. As I think about it
I'll bet it's gotta be close to the same set up for the temp gage. Thanks
for taking the time to help out. I really appreciate it. Have a great Old
  Truck Day!
