Dave here, with Dusty's '50 GMC.

Well it seems that if you take a load of chrome to the plater's (we took
probably 25-30 pieces) 6 or 8 pieces or so will need to be redone. Then,
half of THOSE will need re-replating...and then finally one or two pieces
will be the Pieces from Hell as they will just not turn out right. That last
hellish piece on Dusty's truck is the hood center strip.
First, it came back with chrome peeling at the forward edge. Re-do.
Second it came back with a ding in it, and I had to drill a small access
hole in the second layer on the backside and "massage" the ding out with a
made-up stylus. Re-do.
Third, it came back with much of its arc unbent, so when we pressed it to
conform to the hood's contours, the chrome popped off the top where it
flexed. Re-do.
Fourth, they buffed right through the edge in two places, eating into the
metal and separating the two layers irreparably, as far as I can tell. No
can re-do.
I'm disgusted, but need to put this piece of crap on the truck until we
find a replacement and re-plate it.

Does anyone out there have a hood strip for a '50 GMC? The Chevy Duty
catalog shows one but says "fits Chevy only." Is there a difference in
contour?
