Move to Arizona, If you don't have title, it takes 45 days to apply for lost
title. If you do have title and register it in the past, for a buck ($)
on-line you can get a deissurance certificate, so when you renew the
registration you don't get slapped with all the fees for being late. Pretty
simple. Not that it helps you in Cali but maybe there is someone here in
the Sunshine State with a similar problem.

I'm getting mixed DMV (Calif) information. I've been registering my'54
as Non-Operational for the last 6-7 years which states specifically, that
it CANNOT BE TRAILERED. I took my parts to a body shop a while ago who
has painted and is re-assembling most of the truck which I will need to
pick up soon and trailer it back to my home (about 100 miles away). I know
it's still going to be another year before I actually have this thing on
the road again so I called DMV to see about whether I had to register it
or not in order to move it. I have been told, "yes, you must register it,"
to "no, only if the truck's wheels are going to be on the ground." Any
experts out there who can assist?
