I believe all of the GMC sixes and eights for the TF series were also orange.  
My 58 GMC
NAPCO has never been restored (and looks it), and the 270 six in it is 
orange...what's
left of the paint anyway.

I think the original question was for the Chevys which were gray, 55-59 for the 
6, at
least 57-59 for the V8s with some contention about 55/56 colors for the V8.  

I think the biggest issue is that Chevy didn't care back in those days and 
didn't expect
anyone else to care many years down the road.
