I bought a rebuilt distributor and I noticed that what they did was to tap
the place where the pin was before and then they put in a flushed hex screw
instead of the pin you are referring to.

I'm now at the distributor... I took off the lower distributor gear from my
original 235 distributor, in order to fully disassemble and clean all the
parts and shaft. The gear was held on by a 3/16 pin, peened over on both
sides. Does anyone see any potential problem with re-installing this gear to
the distributor shaft with a standard split roll pin? Thanks.
