A high output alternator might cause problems, but the standard 10SI
won't. It peaks at about 35 amps. 

Do remember that not all the current in the electrical system goes
through the ammeter. When the truck is running, the ammeter sees
charging current only. If your big ox of an alternator tries to charge
the battery at 70 amps, then that will be a problem. 

The other potential problem is if you have lights, radio, cigarette
lighter, horn, and power seat and windows running all at once with the
truck off, then the ammeter sees all of that current.
