My father told me that way back in the 70's.  I don't know if he was correct
or not, but it seems reasonable.  The way I remember the story I would not
expect any parts interchange.

The Rover V-8 for many years was actually the Buick alloy block from the
60's, and some French company apparently make Ford flatheads for years after
production stopped here.

Talking about the japanese cars and stuff reminded that I heard once
that the original Land Cruisers engines F and 2F (botton end) engines
were based on Chevy's 235 engines.
