Could that bracket be the stop that prevents the steering from going too
far?  I haven't looked at one of these in a while.

Thanks to all who replied, I finally got the locking pin out. (the king pins
are another story altogether)

Anyway, and I'm not sure if I can give a good description or not, but I also
came up with another possible problem.  When taking apart the right side
(which came out fairly easily) I noticed what looks almost like a sort of
bracket, but seems to only serve as a washer.  Not sure if this is a good
description, but it slides on the end of the locking pin, and is held on the
locking pin nut.   This piece looks like it servers as nothing more that an
oversize washer for the locking pin, but I'm not quite sure.  

Are any of these floating around in anyone's garage, not being used, or do
you think I could safely dispence with this?
