Great column info - speaking of steering columns I have a 85 GMC van tilt
column wanting to adapt to my 55 1st pu. I will have to remove the original
welded ( odd
angled ) column floor flange with a cut off wheel adapting a flat plate
support.

My concern is can I weld to the base of the column - about 3 " up from the
lower bearing ( minimal heat / cooled with water ) without taking the
column apart - any plastic inside in this area?

 Thanks,
 Jim
