Of the 24 trucks shown on that web site, 7 have visible stepside
tailgates. All seven (a mix of 56,57,58 and 59 models) have the GMC
logo where the M has "feet" that underline the G and the C. So maybe
all GMC TF stepside tailgates had this tailgate and the block lettered
GMC started after '59. An interesting point is that the '59 Fleetside
shown at
http://www.chevrolettruckservice.com/gmc/1959/fleet-001/index.html
has a tailgate with block letters.
