The 55-87 is taller tailgate so you would have to cut sections out.
Best bet is to buy the right vintage gate. you would probably have 40-80 man
hours making your gates different. how much is your time worth?
and are you sure it can be done?

I know this is a dumb question but Has anyone ever modified a 55 and newer
tailgate to fit a 47-53 Box??
I have a 59 stepside Tailgate and a 48 Box!!!
