     Brad -

I'm pretty sure that replacing the gasket in the filler cap will cure
the problem. Unfortunately this gasket is not available from any
source I know of. I've been looking for one because mine needs
replacing. My gasket (1970 Mk3) is a molded rubber affair, not cork.
If yours really is cork then it would seem that it must be a simple
flat gasket and you should be able to manufacture one yourself. I've
bought cork sheet in the past from auto parts stores, but it was along
time ago. You might be able to build a gasket from sheet neoprene and
     that should be quite durable.

Perhaps filling the tank only 3/4 full would help in the interim.

Damn, another thing I've got to worry about on the Spiteful - a self
     siphoning gas tank.

     Tom

I'm resubmitting this since I've had no responce and I sent it when
the server was apparently down.
--------
I just noticed that gas has apparently been siphoning out of my
spitfire while I'm driving. I looked at the cork seal and its of
course dried out. Still there but obviously not doing its job.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this problem, what
to use, etc.
