Hi folks,

Need help with my 79 Spit.

The flange broke off the front of the intermediate exhaust pipe (pipe
between the catalytic converter and muffler). Therefore, time for a
replacement. My question is will the standard exhaust pipe from a pre-Cat
car fit directly in place (no modifications) between the exhaust manifold
and muffler, after I remove the Cat-Conv? (muffler is in excellent shape,
hence I don't want to replace at this time). Will the standard exhaust
pipe gasket fit or do I need the exhaust pipe gasket for the top of the
Cat-Conv?

It would be nice to get rid of the Cat-Conv, because of the all the heat it
puts out right at the passenger's feet and into the carb.

Thanks for your advice.
