Good advice, acouple of thigs I would add.
Unplug the applience, and don't put to much strain on water hoses, even
better renew. Loosing a hose in a car is one thing, but a flood in a house
whilst on away for the day is horible.
Once you remove all the oil and dirt with the WD-40, put some old engin oil
or 3-in-1 into the bearings, WD-40 is a Water Dispersant, not any form of
lasting lubrication. Don't let WD-40 or oil get on anything that gets hot,
other wise you get smoke.
Never ever spray ignition leeds with WD-40, it may get your car started, but
when the Water Disperant evaportated it leaved a residue which is
hydroscopic, next time it's damp your starting problems will be worse. You
are far better taking off your ignition leads, and cleaning them with a
tissue and meths, then dry. If you suffer from starting probs again, clean
better, allow to dry inside, and then spray with a can of Ignition Selant.
