Mark,
1. How old is the gas? If it's been in the tank for a while, I'd dump
it and refill with some newer stuff.
2. How cold is it there where you are working on it. When I tried to start
my 77 Spit Jan 1 98, it wouldn't start either. I finally to a can of
starting fluid, and squarted some in. It fired only long enough to burn
the starting fluid. I sat there for about 1/2 hr. shooting shots of
starting fluid into the eng. to get enough temp. to run. Once I got
it to run, it would restart. However, I believe the carb is in dire
need of a rebuild. That carb has always been hard to start.
I installed another carb. and it starts right up.
3. You don't mention weither the eng. is turning over or not. You might
want to read a couple of the general articles I have on ign. & starting
systems on my Morgan web page - listed below - they are in the
"restoration"
section.
