Maybe it will help to clear things up a bit if were all sure were talking
about the same seam finishers.  As far as I know the finishers, from the
factory, on the rear fender tops on all Spitfire MK4/1500 cars are black.
(That's the way my '72 came)  That isn't to say someone didn't polish or
chrome theirs.   The ones on the rear of the car that surround the rear
panel/light valance are chrome/polished stainless on early cars and black
on later ones (around '76/'77 model year as well as door handles) -  All
round tails have only polished stainless fender seam trim on top of both
front and rear fenders (wings) and no rear valance ones - and the GT6 has
an added stainless trim piece on the lower sill seam (where it meets the
floor panel)  I chose to leave this one off on mine because, while not
being original removed, installed it looked like a water and inevitable
rust trap!
