Hi everybody,

My fiance just acquired a 1971 MKIV, in pretty good condition. The engine
has been gone over thoroughly, and the transmission seems to be working
fine. It needs new shocks, but I think the spring (at least the rear
spring) is in good shape - the car doesn't appear to be listing to one
side or the other. The rocker panels are rusted through, and
consequently the doors don't close easily. That's something we'll have to
take a look at soon.

We've been driving it around a bit (picked it up on Saturday, so not much
chance to play with it yet), and I'm thinking that it could use a little
more power. It's not bad - I've driven worse - and I don't expect a lot
from 1300 ccs, but I'm wondering if the engine is being starved a bit by
having to breathe through the single carb. I know the British versions
came with two carbs, and I'm wondering if anyone's taken the North
American version and modified it back to a British version. Would it be
as easy as a new manifold and a pair of carbs, or would it also require
new pistons (increase compression) and other parts?

I'm also thinking about trying to fuel inject it, but that'd be an
entirely different kind of project!

Thanks for any help, this looks like a very useful list!
