Here is the updated saga:
Ok after some thought I had decided to leave my
car in the hands of what I thought was a competent
mechanic. What I thought was an ignition problem was
actually the fuel pump. Pressure was fading in and
out enough to keep my fuel filter full and deceptively
fooling me at the same time. Anyway, a new fuel pump
and I am back on the road, right. First I ran out of
gas pulling out of the place(thanks guys, way to treat
the customers considering it had half a tank when I
left it there). Technically I was able to drive it
the rest of the way back to school an hour and a half.
But now the 6 runs worse! Granted it gets gas, but
it has no power and barely made it up some of the
bigger hills on the highway. I don't want to return
to the shop in question and get ripped off anymore.
Besides now that I have it at school I have all the
time I want to tinker. So I wanna check this fuel
pump's pressure output, how do I do that(what kinda
tool do I need) and what is the reading supposed to
be?
All that was worked on was the fuel pump replacement
so I don't see how anything else is out of whack.
However I did notice that they put oil in the engine.
About 2-3 quarts too many!!! There was oil coming all
over the place when I opened the hood, plus my oil
pressure was low.
Thanks
Tom
