While installing the transmission in my project car, a composite of
'74/75 and whatever else I have in boxes, I found the bottom
bellhousing/transmission bolt stripped. Couldn't find a 3/8 X 24
Helicoil (TM), the fine thread. So I redrilled the hole and put in a
7/16 X 20 bolt. That ought to hold it!
Then I tried 4 more hardware/ auto parts stores for a copper washer to
seal the bolt. Only thing available was brass. But the manual says
'copper washer'. So I found a penny, drilled and filled it so it fits.
'Course it had to be the correct penny - not just any year will do you
know. Two reasons for that - one, it had to be a '74 or '75 to suit the
year of car. Two, it had to be the older type penny because the new
ones aren't copper! I drilled one and found it was that thin copper
plate over some white metal. Just wouldn't do, you know.
