Just a guess, but the voltage regulator sounds suspect.  Then again, the gas
guage uses it too, so if your gas guage appears normal, then the regulator
might be okay.

An easy way to test the regulator is to run a volt meter before the
regulator -- should read 12 volts, and after the regulator -- should read 10
volts, I believe.  Other than that, the only thing I can figure is that your
thermostat isn't opening.  You can remove it and drive around to see if your
temperature drops back down to normal.
