My replacement differential pinion seal arrived the other day. I plan on
tackling the repair this weekend. It's made of rubber and has a semi-flat
side and a deeper grooved side. Assuming that I'm going to have to destroy
the old pinion seal before being able to take a good look at it, I was
hoping that someone who has replaced one of these things can tell me what
the correct orientation is. Flat side facing in (towards the center of the
diff) or out (driveshaft side)?
Thank you. And for what it's worth, I really regret starting that thread
about anti-theft devices. I had no idea it could deteriorate into the mess
that it has. I've decided to install the hidden kill switch as I really see
no downside in doing it.
