Well I'm right in the middle of doing the exact same thing only my clutch is
already done. In the clutch I put DOT 5 in mainly because everything is
brand new(m/c & s/c) but the brake system I've decided to use
conventional(DOT3-4) fluid. This is because all I did was rebuild the B/M.
I am concered that the seals,on the calipers and rear brakes will go bad if
I mixed the two(DOT 5 and DOT 4). I flushed the whole system twice with
denatured alcohol. Lot and lots of dirt and goop came out of the lines. Plan
on using about a gallon of Lac. Another reason to use std. DOT 3-4 is that
the cost of DOT 5 is about 8.00 a pint. The last reason is availability of
DOT 5. I'd hate to get caught without any to spare.
