Ken,
The synchro rings themselves are nothing to install, as they simply fit
over the corresponding gear.  The tranny rebuild would be straight forward,
the hardest part is removing the retaining clips that hold most everything
together - some of those can be a REAL pain in the $** to remove,
especially the small one on the front of the main shaft that retains  the
3-4 synchro hub assy to the mainshaft.  If you are tearing the tranny apart
(which you have to do to replace the synchro rings anyway) get all new
bearings and inspect the needle bearing surfaces very carefully.  The
Laygear bearing surfaces are especially susceptible to wear.  The layshaft
if not pitted can be rotated 180 to provide a "new" bearing surface since
the load is principally on one (the loaded) side of the shaft, but
replacing it is a better solution the other area to look is on the
mainshaft pilot bearing surface and the corresponding input shaft.  Even
though these areas were strengthened, they still wear fairly rapidly -
