  On my car, I've had the same problem.  I've been lucky.  My problem has
been that the door thinks it is locked.  If you remove the inner door panel,
and look at the door handle, you will see something that looks like a big
cotter pin, and a piece of metal clipped to it.  Try moving the clip up
or down just a little and try again.  At some point, the clip will unlock
the door.  If the clip is NOT on the cotter pin, then the door is probably
locked and can't unlock.
