Stu,
Check the Engine Number, particularly the prefix. If it starts with FC then
you have the 1147CC engine and you would have the correct carbs and you
would have the wrong engine for 1969.    If your prefix starts with FD then
you have the wrong carbs and the correct size engine for 1969.

If you have the FC engine... well get the rebuild kit for the 1147cc
displacement MK1/MK2 spitfire.  Somebody must have changed the engine to an
eariler model.

If you have the FD engine, then sombody must have changed the carbs. I think
you can retrofit the correct needles and jets for the model year you need
into these carb bodies.  From VB you can order the rebuild kit which is for
all MK1-3 spitfires and order the metering needles for the MK3 separately.

Let us know what you find out.
