Just read Gower-Oaks web page about Smiths instruments and found the
following:

Tachometers
All tachometers will work with the 3 basic ignition types:

     breakerless ignition
     contact breaker
     ECU output engine management system

Problems occur where cars have the M.S.D type electronic ignition (as
found on some
American engines). The purchase of an ignition module, catalogued as
part number IGM
1001-00, is necessary in order to give the tachometer the correct
signals.

I'm curious - what is the M.S.D. type electronic ignition mentioned?

Appreciate answers,
Cheers,
Fred
