Hi Graham,
This is the same (one of them) books I referenced when I first
asked the question of the list. (you replied to one of the many responses)
I now have an uneven number of shims on one side. Specs are near perfect.
I even unbolted the top ball joint to see if I was stressing the upright
in the trunnion. It never even tilted out from under the upper a-arms. A quick
check
of the freeplay, showed equal (minimal) motion for and aft. So I firmly
believe My present castor adjustments, corrected previous stresses
that were (had been there before) present under the PO's care.

A-arms

Hi All
I know I am late in on this one but I have the Herald 1200,1250, (with 1360
update pages) Vittesse 6 and Spitfire workshop manual (black ring binder
from Standard Triumph) Which states "Adjustment of camber and castor angle
is accomplished by altering the number of shims assembled between the
chassis and the lower inner fulcrum brackets."
Short snip about jacking the car up.
Castor angles
To decrease, add shims to the front bracket or remove shims from the rear.
To increase, reverse the procedure.

Camber angles
To decrease, add an equal number of shims to both brackets.
To increase, reverse the procedure."

I managed to get my Herald 1360 estate from 2 deg positive camber (suited to
crossply tyres) to 1.5 deg neg camber (suited to radial tyres), I wanted 2
deg neg but ran out of bolt length! That car handled like it was on rails!
And yes there were odd numbers of shims in the packs but the camber
(modified), castor, king pin inclination and tracking front and rear were
bang on the book specs, and the wear on the trunnions reduced when I got to
the correct specs.

Graham.
