James,

What steering wheel have you got on your car? You can get a pretty nice
leather-rimmed one for around #30, plus I think #15 for the adaptor, made by
Mountney, from most Triumph specialists (TRGB, Rimmer Bros, Moss) - leather
might be warmer to the touch than what you have!

As for the wheel trims, my understanding was that it was quite simple - MkIV
cars (probably including American MkIVs with the 1500 engine?) had the black
plastic trims, the 1500 had the silver plastic ones, never heard of chrome
ones as original equipment. Rimmers sell the silver ones for about #17.50
each, as do probably any other Triumph supplier. When looking for the black
ones they simply advise buying a silver one and painting it black!! Rimmers
list more parts than anyone else (although you sometimes have to wait a
while for some parts, and they are not the cheapest), so if they don't list
it it's not available new. Any Spitfire dismantlers (The Spitfire
Graveyard, TRGB) will have a selection of both, probably for not a lot of
cash, but maybe not in much better shape than yours.

Joe's Spitfire Database is good, but those listed extend well beyond the
membership of this mailing list.
