Have the studs broken flush with the top of the block.
If yes then you use an extractor that looks like a tapered die, with a
reverse thread. (don't know the proper name) you drill a hole into the
stud, then slowly and very carefully wind in the extractor. Eventually the
extractor locks in the hole and if you continue turning the stud should
wind out. Usually work well, but bare in mind that if you break the
extractor offin the stud you're stuck as it is made of VERY hard steel and
is pretty well undrillable!
