Barry,

To dial here to the UK from the USA you have to dial:

011 to tell the US system that you are dialling international

44 which is the country code for England

1992 which is the area code (usually 4 digits, except a few big cities which
are 3 and London which is 2)

XXXXXX which is the local number (usually 6 digits, 7 for big cities, 8 for
London)

So you should dial:

011 44 1992 XXXXXX

You don't drop the zero, you don't add a leading 1!

If your final number is only 4 digits long then you are missing a couple, it
should be 6 if you have a 4-digit area code.
