I have never looked inside one, but there is probably a resistor inside that 
regulates
the sensitivity.  If it is adjustable, you are set.  Otherwise, you could 
possibly replace it
with a different value.

On the other hand, I have a cheap lab bench power supply with
a voltmeter what reads 20% low.   Unfortunately, its resistance is
entirely contained in the windings, and there is no way to adjust it. :-(
