Hi guys,
I need to explore the options I would have for upgrading the clutch in my 70
1296 MK3 Spitfire. The current clutch has lasted only a few seasons and the
friction plate is gone. I use this car for autocross and I was having trouble
getting off the line. Since I have fitted a GT6 OD gearbox it is a little
tricky. I had to use a Sunbeam friction plate which has the correct spline
hole
for a GT6 input shaft mated to a STD 1296 pressure plate and the stock
flywheel. It looks as if the clutch was spinning a lot which would explain the
slow
starts. It was like this from the very beginning after I installed it. The Spit
is hopped up a some for increased HP but it's not like I have a V8 in it! So I
really don't understand why this set up did not work unless I just had a
defective pressure plate. The friction plate was a little different because it
had
no springs but this should have made it grab better?????

You know this clutch is so small it looks like it belongs in my Wheel Horse
lawn tractor. I am wondering if anyone has fitted a larger clutch to a 1296?
I would also like to fit an aluminum flywheel but I can't find anyone selling
them for a 1296. Will a 1500 flywheel fit?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Darrell
